We've been researching the current situation at SPS. Here's what we've learned.

11/30/2020

Over the last few months the 2020 Society has spent time learning as much as  possible about the current state of affairs at St. Paul's. Here are some of the facts:

  1. SPS lags far behind its peers both in DEI efforts and in fair and effective reporting methods for alumni and students.

  2. SPS made the working environment so untenable for Jeff Maher, the compliance officer who was keeping them from criminal charges, that he had no choice but to very publicly resign. As a result, the Crisis Center of Central New Hampshire also pulled out of their service agreement with the school. SPS had been stonewalling CCCNH for more than a year, not allowing them to put an advocate on campus. CCCNH knew that without Jeff there to mediate, any continued efforts with SPS would be futile.

  3. More than 50 survivors have come forward to Lacy in recent months, some with allegations against people still involved with the school. These are allegations the school knows about. Some of those who have come forward are as recent as the form of '20.

  4. SPS has never publicly shared the results of any campus climate survey and has no plans to do so. This is now a NH law for colleges and universities, and other prep schools who follow best practices do so. Earlier this month, we sent a letter to the rector and the board of trustees asking for a transparent climate survey to be conducted by the end of this school year. Read our original letter here and Rector Gile's response with our thoughts here.
